What we Attended: Books and Babies Lapsit 10:30 and Mother Goose on the Loose 11:30
First it should be noted that on Fridays this library has lower attendance of their morning programs by children. This is a great opportunity if your child is shy or has other reasons that interacting with lots of kids might be a problem. For books and babies we were the only child that attended. If however, you are looking for more social interaction about 8 kids attended their Wednesday session. The librarian still ran story time and customized it to my son. We sang some songs, marched around, read a few books from her board book stash. She then found this basketball hoop in the back and some balls after she noticed he liked them.
Also the coolest thing about this library is that their story time is in a special kids room. This room is small and cozy. It also has windows overlooking some of the library which my child loved. In addition, there is a train display that the librarians can turn on and off. So if your child loves trains, they will be mesmerized by this. Since my child was the only one, we spent several minutes watching the train.
We also attended the Mother Goose on the Loose program with one other child. It has SEVERAL finger plays and nursery rhymes. Some of them involved using a felt board or hand puppet. This probably is best for older children. It says it is designed for under three but I found that my child had a really hard time sitting still for so long. The person running this program is very animated but the children don't have a huge amount of interaction or freedom. For a few songs they shake a shaker, wave a scarf, pull one felt board piece off the wall, and pet the hand puppet. The other child who appeared to be at least two, also seemed very overwhelmed by the amount of rhymes. We probably did about 20 different nursery rhymes.
