Date Visited: July 11, 2017 Program: Book Babies The first thing I have to say is, if you have kids and you haven't been to Shaler North Hills Library. It NEEDS to be on your list. It has a HUGE play area and many many events for kids of all ages unless you have children with sensory issues. There were many kids there and it was very loud, so probably not the best place for a child sensitive to noise and many other kids. Okay with that being said, expert tip, pay attention to where your event is being held on the event calendar. We didn't look at this just the time, and we NEVER would have found it, if I hadn'

Address: 213 Grant Ave. Millvale, PA 15209 Hours: Monday: Closed             Tuesday: 12:00pm-8:00pm             Wednesday: 10:00am-6:00pm             Thursday: 10:00am-6:00pm             Friday: 10:00am-2:00pm             Saturday: 10:00am-5:00pm             Sunday: Closed Date: July 7, 2017 What we Attended: Small Fry Fridays (consists of story time, mini makers, and open play) Thoughts: One thing to note is this location has street parking only so bring a few quarters. Each one will get you half an hour, so it's pretty reasonable. I was about 10 minutes early and had no problem finding a place to park. First thing you will notice is that this library is very new. Founded in 2013, this is a very intimate space that has a cafe vibe. This children's area was closed due to some sort of construction or leak issue, so we were in a back area. At any rate, Millvale has a really unique setup and was a refreshing change. One thing that I noticed about this story

It it not in the front up the garden walkway. I know this might seem silly but after driving by, I thought it was in front and spent a few minute searching for it since the path doesn't circle the whole way around the building.   First it should be noted that on Fridays this library has lower attendance of their morning programs by children. This is a great opportunity if your child is shy or has other reasons that interacting with lots of

Address: 500 Thorn Street                 Sewickley, PA 15143 Hours: Monday-Thursday - 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM             Friday - 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM             Saturday - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM             Sunday - 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Date: June 13, 2017 What we Attended: Babies and Books 10:30 Thoughts: The program was pretty great. First of all, there were about 20 babies under 24months old. The woman running this had to think on her feet, because our group was much larger than in the past. She moved us to the community room. This program started off with several songs that had hand motions and a lyrics sheet. One of these songs was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" during which the librarian came around and touched each child with a star wand. Then she read a board book. The librarian apologized about the book she was reading, because many of the board books were gone (because they had been checked out by patrons). Then we moved into the shaker songs where children got to use

Address: 1000 CHURCH HILL RD PITTSBURGH PA 15205 412.787.3906 Hours: Monday-Thursday 10am-8pm             Friday-Saturday 10am-5pm             Sunday Closed Date Visited: Tuesday June 6, 2017 What we attended: A portion of storytime and open play Thoughts: We missed most of storytime because we didn't actually see that on their events page when we decided what time we would go; we were going for the open play. When we got there we decided to register for an Allegheny County Library Card. We live in Butler County and I have no idea when this policy started but guess what all of PA? You can get a library card in Allegheny County for free!! A very wonderful woman at the front desk gave me the paperwork to get a card and hurried us up to storytime because she didn't want us to miss it. Storytime and the open play are held in the community room which is upstairs. They will happily give you directions at the front desk, which I suggest if you've nev

The Goal

A little about my family. I am a teacher and my husband works nights. We have an almost one year old boy who is adorable and also in a perpetual state of motion. Seriously grocery shopping takes 2 hours because everyone comments on how cute he is and he in turn tries to interact with literally every shopper and employee in the grocery store. Last time we were out at one point eight people were trying to engage in interactions with our son. So with our days free and our child yearning to engage with the outside world, we've started off on our adventure. Our goal is to visit as many public libraries and their programs for 1 year olds in Butler and Allegheny County. We're hoping to have some new experiences, read new books, and make some new friends. Come join us on our adventure as we catalog the journey to libraries near and far.
